Born on September 17th 1982 Bonecrusher won the hearts of all who saw him race.
With sheer guts and grit The Crusher won races from impossible positions, with any weight, three wide, with the field ganging up on him. Whatever they threw at The Crusher it was never enough to beat him.
What Bonecrusher did in the 16 months as a 3 and 4-year-old had never been done before and if it is ever done again the horse that does it will be hailed as the Superstar of all Superstars.
Bonecrusher was New Zealand's first $1 Million dollar stake earner, and he did that on his ear at three.
The Crusher won 9 Group One races, including the New Zealand Derby, Air New Zealand Stakes (twice), Tancred Stakes, AJC Derby, Cox Plate, and the Australia Cup.
Since ending his racing days in 1989 Bonecrusher has been lavishly cared for by his owner Peter Mitchell and his family at Takanini. And they have never shirked from sharing their champion with his legion of fans in Australia and New Zealand.
Over the years Bonecrusher has appeared at racetracks throughout New Zealand and Australia, but at 21 The Crusher is now being fully retired.
On Derby Day 2003 Bonecrusher led out the Derby field at Ellerslie in his last public appearance before full retirement.
This website has been set up by Dave Stewart of Exposures , a longtime fan of Bonecrusher, so that the rest of the army of fans can still remember and enjoy Bonecrusher for years to come.
